Requesting a vHost
HybridIRC vHost Policy
Requesting a VHost
A VHost is a virtual host used for masking your proper IP or hostname.
HybridIRC offers our users free custom vhosts which work through your NickServ account and will only be active/visible after authing to your account on IRC.
- If you are interested, you can apply by typing:
/msg HostServ REQUEST <your.desired.vhost>
- For example, here’s the hostmask for the lord.bacon.cheeseburger:
/msg HostServ REQUEST lord.bacon.cheeseburger
Once your application has been received, provided your nickname has been registered one of our staff members will activate or decline your selected vhost. You will receive a memo advising you of acceptance or denial of your request.
Because of the nature of this service, it obviously comes with a few rules. By signing up for a vhost you agree to uphold these rules. We will accept no excuse for not reading the rules. If you violate these rules you will lose your ability to use the vhost and you may wish to use the standard default vhost (hybridirc.users.$account) from our HostServ OFFERLIST.
- To list all available vhosts:
/msg HostServ OFFERLIST
- To take an offered vhost for use:
/msg HostServ TAKE hybridirc.users.$account
Terms and Conditions:
- Vhosts may only be changed once every 30 days.
- No trademarked names may be used in a vhost. (example: microsoft.com)
- You must not use the vhost service to evade channel bans.
- No offensive or otherwise degrading vhosts, this means no profanity, racism, sexism, or anything that is directly intended to upset or abuse another user(s) or channel(s).
- No staff related vhosts.
- Using other peoples accounts or nicks in a vhost is prohibited.
- The use of a TLD (.com, .org, .net, etc) cannot be added to a vhost.
- A vhost must not contain any special characters i.e _-()^<>{}.
- HybridIRC will always keep the default vhost (hybridirc.users.$account) in use (if authed to NickServ) for all users unless you have requested a vhost.
- A vhost must contain at least one period.
- HybridIRC reserves the right to deny anyone the use of a vhost for any reason.
How does this work?
Well, if you have a VHost set to your nickname, every time you identify to NickServ under the nickname your IP/hostname will change to the VHost and users will not be able to see your proper IP/hostname.
